The previous week’s assignment was “Doors” and so it only fitting that this week’s assignment be “Windows”.
A couple of years ago I would often go out on these “Walk-abouts” for a couple of hours at a time, with camera in hand, shooting whatever happened to be the “subject of that day”… so this week I chose to re-visit this type of shooting, and wander the downtown in search of whatever interesting window subjects I could find. What a truly wonderful way to spend a sunny warm, almost spring, afternoon.
Solar Blue
Looking at the sharp straight lines in the window frames of these downtown office towers, it’s sort of counter intuitive to think that the reflections coming off of those shiny, smooth windows could be, would be so warped and deformed.
Whoville
These reflections of seemingly distorted buildings make me think of the buildings one might find in a Dr. Seuss book. I love the colours in this shot and the perfectly, uniquely warped shapes in the reflections.
Tormented Spider’s Web
What a fun thing to do,… it’s sort of like looking up in the clouds on a warm, summer day and imagining what all the shapes look like…
Exploding Birthday Cake…
…My first impression of this shot as I came upon it during my first edit.
High-rise and Crane
I’m not sure I actually “see” something in this reflection,… but there is something about this shot which I really like, so I included it in this week’s blog .
Finally, I decided to go abstract and multi-dimensional with this week’s final submission,… my photo of the windows and girders from the inside of the glass pyramid in Edmonton’s City Hall.
Inside a Crystal Lattice
This shot really messes with your mind as its numerous reflections from multiple pane windows are all of the same girders… giving what I imagine, it might look like if one could stand inside the middle of a crystal lattice, looking outwards.
I especially like this shot because it really messes with the mind.
So I’ve been slacking off these previous 5 weeks, thus the reason for the dead space between now and my last entry back in February… but I have been shooting during this time and posting single assignment shots up on flickr. If there is anyone out there interested in next week’s assignment, I will return again to posting them here at the end of each week’s blog… check back this (Monday) evening, as next week’s assignment should be posted up here by then.
Cheers,
(This coming week’s assignment is “Subject Placement” – Shoot an image where the subject does not appear at the centre of the frame and the subject does not appear at the third. The subject should be placed at the very extreme edge of the frame. The subject does not have to be fully included in frame. The subject can be cut off as desired. You can do what you like with these instructions. This is intended to be an exercise in attempting to change how we frame our images.)
